Many of us have heard that games make you lazy and antisocial. Let’s talk about a game that changes the ways games were originally played – Pokémon Go.
The game is designed to bring people together, lure them out of their rooms and promote activity. You can download it to your phone or tablet, but you need to go to parks, malls and others locations in order to play the game and catch the Pokémon.
The game designers did this by creating Poke Stops that give you gifts and a gym that you are able to take over. For example, you can acquire Poke Coins when you stay at the gym for more than four hours. Those coins allow you to shop for items such as Poke Balls and more.
Michael Chavez started playing Pokémon Go right when it came out. It helped him be more social and active.
“One the main reasons I stared playing was because I watched the show when I was a kid, and I love the idea of having a Pokémon as a pet,” said Chavez. “Also, Pokémon Go helped me become more social. By playing Pokémon I met many people, and we became really great friends. We go out to catch Pokémon or do raids and battle gyms. After that, we all hang out and have lunch together.”
“Pokémon Go helped me stay more active and lose weight,” said Chavez. “Ever since I started playing Pokémon Go, I lost a total of 30 pounds because of all the walks we do to hatch eggs or evolve Pokémon. Those are some of the quests we do, and many of them have you walk 5-10 kilometers in order to hatch the Pokémon or evolve them.”
Chavez said they walk around the pond at the Victor Valley College campus to spin the Poke Stop and take over the gyms. Chavez showed off a hidden world that many don’t know exists on campus. He said that students and even some professors play.
One of the other players, Nick Tapia, said that Pokémon Go brings people together, helps them come out of their shells, and even allows them to evolve into happy people (like a Pokémon!). He also said that Pokémon Go has helped many people with weight loss and has helped people with emotional problems, such as depression, because it brings people together and gets them out of their homes. Tapia has been playing Pokémon Go since they first launched the game.
Pokémon Go breaks down boundaries by bringing people together and helping them overcome shyness and emotional distress. It has changed the way we see games now by combining the outer world with the screen world.
