Top Four Music Services for Students on a budget

Remember that one song you just can’t get out of your head. That one artist you can’t wait for their album to drop. That’s because music has the ability to make us feel and express ourselves in ways we can’t quite explain.

People and music go together like peanut butter and jelly, it just fits. People listen to music in a variety of ways, some free over the internet or paid for using an app on their phone. Regardless of what you are listening to or what you’re using to listen to music, the question should be is if this service is right for me.

Luckily I have broken down four music services that are affordable to students and the perks that come with them:

1. Prime music – If you love Amazon then you’ll love Prime Music. Prime Music has been around since 2007 and has an array of music in their catalogue. Amazon Music starts at $7.99 if you are a member, $9.99 if you’re not. Amazon, like many other companies have a student plan that is much more affordable and gets you more bang for your buck.

As a student, using their student discount, you only pay $4.99 a month. That’s not all, if you happen to be a Prime member and wish to use Prime Music then it will only cost you $0.99 on top of your prime. This deal is only for Prime student accounts and will only be accessible to students. That isn’t to say that you still can’t get a good deal when it comes to music.

2. Apple music – If Amazon isn’t your cup of tea then maybe Apple music is more of your style. Apple music has not been around all that long since coming out in the summer of 2015. Apple Music offers music and videos from all kinds of artists starting at $9.99 a month.

Apple offers students a discount to their music service starting at $4.99 a month. That’s not all, if you have a student account then you will be able to use the newly released Apple TV - free! If you are new to Apple Music then you will get a 3 month free trial before being charged.

If you’re wondering does this work on Android, the answer is yes. You just need to download the app and subscribe. iPhone and other Apple products come already installed so there’s no need for an install. In my opinion if you have an iphone then Apple music is the way to go.

3. Spotify – Spotify has been around for a decade and going strong. Spotify offers a multitude of genres, categories, and podcasts to choose from. Spotify is generally free to users but with premium you get more. Spotify’s premium memberships starts at $9.99 a month.

As a student Spotify offers a student discount with their student premium that starts at $4.99. With premium you will be allowed to download music or podcast and listen to them offline as well as create a personal playlist that has unlimited skips. That’s not all, with student premium you could get Hulu free. You read right Hulu free. Hulu is a good choice for those that are into streaming the latest on TV without having to pay much.

4. Tidal – I know what you’re thinking, what is Tidal? Tidal is a relatively new music streaming service that has been around for a few years. Tidal started in 2014 by the Norwegian public company Aspiro. Tidal prides itself on high-quality lossless audio and high-definition music video and podcasts. They offer Hi-fi, which is a high-quality musical sound that is intended to enhance the users listening experience and is said to be the best way to listen to your favorite songs. Standard premium plans start at $9.99 a month.

Tidal offers a student premium account starting at $4.99 a month, with a student Hi-fi account coming in at $9.99 a month. That’s not all, they do offer military discounts at $5.99 and Military Hi-fi at $11.99 a month.

It goes without saying that there are plenty of music services out there but none might stack up to these services that offer a lot to its users, especially college students that don’t have money to spare. With these music services you could find the right one that fits you and your budget.
